6 tips for stress-free planning

Congrats! You just got engaged. Now what?

Your head is swirling with excitement and thoughts of what you’d like your perfect wedding to be like. But deciding where to start has you slightly overwhelmed. Here’s our advice:

First, breath

Take a beat. Enjoying your engagement is important. Celebrate this moment with your fiance as well as your friends and family before you dive into the thick of it.

Stay organized

There are plenty of free wedding planning checklists out there (like this one or this one) that are a great place to start. A checklist will help you keep track of what you should do and when which will ultimately minimize your stress and keep you organized as the countdown begins for your big day.

Make time for planning

You should set aside a day or two weekly where you can do some planning. Ideally, you should do this together as a couple because it will help eliminate any miscommunication. Which brings us to…

Communicate

Think of it as practice for your life together. Stay in communication about all the wedding details and what each of you envisions for the day. While it’s smart to divide and conquer tasks to make the process go quicker, don’t neglect to tell each other what items you’re taking care of. You wouldn’t want to double book.

Be flexible

It’s not uncommon for couples to hit road bumps during the wedding planning process. That means you’ll need to be able to roll with the punches. Maybe you and your fiance disagree on the cake flavor or whether should book a DJ or a band. Talk through your differences in opinions and don’t be afraid to compromise. Equally, if you hit hiccups (and we truly hope you don’t) like your dream venue’s booked or your perfect wedding dress is too expensive, flexibility will help you find solutions so you still get the day of your dreams.

Signing on the dotted line

Your wedding day is about you. So as you book wedding professionals, make sure to outline what you want in your contracts explicitly. Crystal clear expectations will make your day go off without a hitch. At Capture the Knot, we want you to get what you pay for so that your wedding is magical and hopefully stress-free.
